Andrew Sparling

Within a wide-ranging career as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician, the clarinettist Andrew Sparling has gained a special reputation as an interpreter of living composers.

He has played quintets with the Nyman, Brindisi and Lyric Quartets, and is a regular guest with the English String Quartet at the London Festival of Chamber Music. With the pianist Thalia Myers he has given recitals in venues from St Helier to Ho Chi Minh City , and he has taken part in chamber music and education projects for the British Council in Egypt , Jordan , Indonesia , Sri Lanka , Macedonia and Argentina .

His solo performances have included festivals in London , Huddersfield , New York and Belfast , broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Danish Radio, and recordings for NMC and Metier. He gave his concerto debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the Philharmonia Orchestra in May 2000.

He also performs on period instruments: he has played with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and has taken part in BBC TV drama-documentary series about Mozart and Beethoven; in the former he also acted the role of clarinettist Anton Stadler.

Thalia Myers

Thalia Myers is active as performer, teacher and promoter of new music. Her repertoire and solo recordings encompass music from the eighteenth century to the present and include five albums of contemporary works for solo piano. As a soloist, she is dedicated equally to disseminating new works and reviving neglected older repertoire. A lifelong champion of new music, she has commissioned over a hundred and fifty new works, including the Spectrum anthologies for piano, published by the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music, and the Chamber Music Exchange. She has given many first performances and première broadcasts throughout the world.
