EVELYN FICARRA
At the root of my composition is an obsession with sound - vocal, instrumental, environmental, mechanical, natural, electronic. I am attracted to the noise elements in musical sources and the musical elements in noises. Even in my purely instrumental works I am likely to think in terms of sound objects, and in my electro-acoustic works, recorded sound is almost invariably my starting point.
The challenge is that of structuring these sounds - transposing them, chopping them up, re-ordering them, manipulating them through various electronic and compositional methods - allowing different meanings to emerge through juxtaposition and transformation. |
