Vanitas

VANITAS

Vanitas was formed in 2000 by Lore Lixenberg (voice), Zoe Martlew (cello) and Dominic Saunders (piano) to perform the extraordinary music-theatre trio of the same name by Salvatore Sciarrino. Their first concert was given to a capacity audience and great acclaim in the Great Hall at King’s College London, and also included new commissions from young British composers Jonathan Powell and Morgan Hayes. Subsequently they were selected to perform in the BMIC's Cutting Edge series, in the Aldeburgh Festival and at other venues. Further commissions followed for new trios from Silvina Milstein and Rolf Hind. Together they have also explored the duo repertoires for cello/piano, cello/voice and voice/piano. Lore and Zoe gave the first performance of the first set of Birtwistle's Niedecker Verses.
